Junior Kart Racer Tazio Torregiani Scores Win At GPNY
Facility NewsTazio Torregiani recently achieved another big junior racing win to add to his belt. The 12 year-old karting superstar from Stamford, Conn., has been kart racing for over six years and winning junior kart racing events nationwide ever since. So far, Tazio has kicked off this season with numerous wins including his most recent triumph at the WKA Divisional New Jersey Spring Series in Southern Jersey. Tazio stole an exciting first place at the last minute with just a couple turns until the finish line.

Born into a family of racers, Tazio claims to get his inspiration from his father, a former race car driver himself. The promising junior kart racer has shown great talent and a love for kart racing from an early age. Tazio spends a great amount of time practicing for his racing events at local tracks such as Grand Prix NY (GPNY) of Mount Kisco. The young speed demon pushes especially hard during the winter time to develop his skills over at the indoor track's racing facility. The racing karts at GPNY help to give Tazio the extra practice and training that he needs during his off-season. Tazio's portfolio of racing wins show that his hard work and practice have paid off. The exceptional young racer says he hopes to one day continue to race as a Formula 1 driver.

The Junior Racing School at Grand Prix New York is home to many junior racers (like Tazio) looking to start their racing careers or get involved with a fun new activity. If your son or daughter is looking to start kart racing for the first time or simply put in some extra practice for their next race, check out GPNY's Junior Racing League. At Grand Prix's Junior Racing League, young drivers can learn unique skills to help them become a great racer. The Junior League Racing students also benefit from learned experiences involving team-building, sportsmanship and the fun of racing wheel-to-wheel.

Grand Prix Racing makes it easy for anyone to sign up for their Junior League Racing events, offering a convenient Saturday and Sunday schedule. Participates in the Junior Racing League can start in on the fun after obtaining their very own GPNY Junior Racing license provided via GPNY's racing school or camp. Visit Grand Prix's website to learn more about how your child can join in on the fun and learning.

Grand Prix New York Mt. Kisco, NY 5th Round Results
Racing NewsThe 5th round of Grand Prix NY’s ARL

This evening had the racers battling on the midtown configuration running in the opposite direction as normal. First up this evening was the GTU (190lb) group. Quick from the outset was Alex Eickelbeck followed closely by Michael Cohen. At the end of the 12 lap qualifying session, Bobby Sayers grabbed pole with a time of 45.807.

Second was Cohen with a time of 45.865 while Eickelbeck rounded out the top three. At the drop of the green for heat 1, Sayers and Cohen set up a small gap on Eickelbeck and Andrew Wood. Wood was able to work his way past into third on the 4th lap and spent the rest of the race fending off Eickelbeck. Heat two saw Sayers, Cohen and Wood add weight to their karts and the field inverted. At the start there was quite a scrum and at the end of the first few laps the point was held by Mike Demello, with Niko and Steve Eickelbeck close behind. This is how they would finish with Demello taking his first victory of the season.

In the GTO (225lb) class Michael Cohen was fastest in qualifying, grabbing pole with a time of 46.014. Close behind was Cory Rossi and Jeff Castellano. In heat one, Cohen checked out at the start and cruised to a seven second win. Castellano and Rossi battled all race with Castellano getting the better of Rossi at the end to finish second. Heat two had these hot shoes starting from the rear with Ross Pisarkiewicz and Chris Andrews on the front row and Ed Lott and Michael Carbon on row two. At the drop of the green there were a number of incidents that bunched the field up at the top of the corkscrew – basically four rows of side by side racing. Rossi found himself under the wall and literally on top of Castellano’s kart as he was caught in the middle of the insanity. A red flag was thrown and the remains of his kart were cleaned up. A second restart had David Lapham spinning in the first turn, but that did not lead to more chaos. Ahead of all this mayhem were Pisarkiewicz, Andrews and Lott who finished as they started, with Pisarkiewicz grabbing his first win of the season.

The next round is being held on the facility’s downtown configuration.

Business Council of Westchester Honors GPNY Mt. Kisco, NY's Nat Mundy
Facility NewsThe Business Council of Westchester has named Bedford resident Nat Mundy, vice president and co-founder of Grand Prix New York in Mount Kisco, as one of the “Rising Stars – Westchester’s Forty Under Forty”.

He will be recognized for his professional accomplishments, leadership qualities, and business success at an awards ceremony June 9, 2011.

Here is the news release:

The Business Council of Westchester’s annual “Rising Stars” program is the most prestigious honor among young business leaders throughout the county. Forty awards are given to young men and women who have demonstrated professional or entrepreneurial achievements, and exemplify strong leadership and a vision for the future of Westchester.

Nat Mundy’s vision for GPNY took shape in 2007 while working at a Land Rover dealership shortly after college. With strong belief in his unique concept, he approached Diamond Properties, Northern Westchester’s leading full service owner and manager of properties, and convinced them to pave 118,000 s/f of their newly acquired building at 333 North Bedford Road. Nat’s foresight turned an empty warehouse into a multi-million dollar indoor professional karting facility and multi-entertainment venue, the first of its kind in the area. Now only four years later, GPNY employs over 93 staff and draws business into Westchester County from all over the region. With plans for a 19 lane, upscale bowling facility underway, GPNY’s positive contribution to Westchester’s economy continues to rise.

“It’s a privilege to be recognized by The Business Council of Westchester alongside esteemed professionals,” said Mundy. “This honor reinforces my commitment to propel GPNY to even greater heights.” In addition to being named a “Rising Star,” Nat was also one of 24 entrepreneurs profiled as a “Westchester Wunderkind” – the county’s brightest, most accomplished professional young superstars – in the latest issue of 914INC magazine.

Nat’s status as one of Westchester’s most respected, successful entrepreneurs has brought to GPNY numerous opportunities for involvement in charitable causes, of which Nat is a strong advocate. Since opening, GPNY has been involved in a supporting role with over 500 Westchester County schools, churches, and non-profits. The steady growth of GPNY, coupled with its dedicated staff and community involvement, is a direct result of Nat’s leadership and speaks to the quality of his unyielding work ethic.

“GPNY would not be successful without the support of our community; each person who has walked through our doors has contributed to our growth,” said Mundy. “Having recently entered my 30’s, community involvement has become a priority for me both personally and professionally. I would like my legacy to be one of giving back.”
