F1 Boston Adult Winter League Round Five
Racing NewsBraintree, Mass. (April 5, 2010) – The checkered flags have waived on Round Five in the F1 Boston Adult Winter League 2010 season, and the competition remains fierce across all three divisions. Here are the highlights from the action:

Pro League

In the Pro League HW division, Ricardo Nunes continues to distance himself from the field with a division-best 39 points in Round 5, giving him a 160 points and a double-digit lead. Jonathan Jacques’ solid round of 26 keeps him in the second spot with 138 points, while Adam Labonte (128 pts.) jumped over two competitors and grabbed third place with an impressive 35-point performance. Ray Kobs (116 pts) kept pace in fourth with 21 points and Stephen Sarnecki and Nathan Brown are tied for fifth at 86.

The LW division’s Jay Hanscom has recorded back-to-back high scores – he topped his 39-point Round 4 result with a League-best 40 points in the 5th Round. At 162, Hanscom has a commanding 38-point lead on the next closest contender. Joe Mega overtook second place with a total of 132 points after earning 28 in the Round. Lenny Mangano with 13 points settled into third (124 pts.) and Rob Johnson, who scored 30 points in the round, kept close in 4th with 118 points.

Sprint League

In Sprint League’s HW division Adam Labonte continues to lead the way. With his division-best 32 in Round 5, Labonte has 172 points and an 18-point lead on second place. Steve Hathaway’s 30 points keeps him in second at 154, just ahead of Darius Grala, whose 26 points in the round leaves him just 7 points behind Hathaway. Carl Daley’s 27 points gives him the fourth spot at 133; Paul Carter also scored 27, ‘leap-frogging’ him into the 5th spot, with 114 points.

The LW division is turning into a race for second place. Ricardo Nunes, for the 5th consecutive week had the highest score – 37 points this round. His 199-point total leaves him better than 50 points ahead of the pack. Ed Resnick and Eric Askin continue to battle it out for second, Resnick posted 30 points to grab the second spot with 152; Askin’s 24 put him in third. Alex Faust (138 pts.) is next after earning 27 and Kyle Raeburn’s 30-point performance has him in 5th at 124.

Rookie League

The Rookie HW division continues to boast a tight top three competition, and promises to deliver a thriller in the 6th round finale. John Lowinski-Loh earned 32 points and keeps a slim lead at 172. Just 5 points off the mark is Chris Sullivan who booked 28 in Round 5. Jose Pimental’s 26 keeps him in third place at 156, while George Anderson’s League best 42 puts him at 113 for the fourth spot, over Corey Plourde’s

88 points.

In the LW division, John Day keeps a comfortable lead at 169 after earning 37 points in the round. Gord O’Donnell’s division-best 38 keeps him solidly in second at 136, while Michael Catizone’s 20 points maintains third with a total of 112. The fourth and fifth place competitors are separated by just 5 points; Chris Bridges is at 105, while David Smith booked 32 points in the round to give him 100 points. Chris Bissada, with total 77 points, is in sixth place – the last Championship qualifying position – with a slim four point margin over Rich Rosen.

The Winter Adult Leagues offer 6 rounds of competition – each round features a practice session and three races. Points are accrued towards a season-ending Final Championship Race, with the top 6 drivers in each weight class advancing to the Finals in the Pro and Rookie Leagues. In the Sprint League, the top eight competitors move on to the Championship Race. The format includes one race drop; five of the six rounds count towards determining who makes it to the Championships. All races take place at F1 Boston, a state-of-the-art facility featuring two top-notch, European styled courses. Here’s a look at the complete standings, to date:
