Pole Position Raceway Las Vegas, NV In Tesla Roadster 2.5 Article
Facility News2011 Tesla Roadster 2.5 Sport Road Test and Review

When it comes to electric cars, one of my most memorable experiences was spending the better part of an afternoon at Pole Position Raceway in Las Vegas, Nev. motoring around an indoor racetrack in an all-electric go-kart.

Thanks to Tesla letting me spend the day in a 2011 Roadster 2.5 Sport, that day is now a distant memory. I’m not saying that other electric cars aren’t fun to drive, it’s just that the Tesla Roadster 2.5 Sport offers a more intense level of fun. You can get zero emissions and instant torque from a Chevrolet Volt and Nissan Leaf, but those are family cars. The Tesla Roadster is an electric sports car without the need for a high-powered engine or, even worse, a gas-guzzler tax. Simply put, the Tesla Roadster is all fun and no guilt.

This kind of fun definitely isn’t cheap, though, with the base 2011 Tesla Roadster 2.5 having a starting MSRP of $109,000 and the Roadster 2.5 Sport starting at $128,500. Adding in some of the available options can send the as-tested price well over the $150,000 range. Of course, none of these prices factor in the $7,500 federal tax credit for electric vehicles that some owners will qualify for.

The Tesla Roadster isn’t just a car aimed at environmentally conscious drivers as it is also should appeal to performance car enthusiasts who want to stand out from the crowd… even more so than you get from typical six figure sports cars.
