Electric Kart Racing Opens in Hawaii
Facility NewsElectric Kart Racing Opens in Hawaii

Drivers start your engines! Hawaii's Fast Lane, Podium Raceway Hawaii (PRH) announces its Grand Opening of Hawaii's first and only indoor electric kart racing track. Race fans, motorsport enthusiasts, friends and family are invited to Arrive and Drive at the Grand Opening festivities on Saturday, January 1, 2011.

The facility, a 44,000-square-foot venue located in Kapolei on Oahu, is designed to thrill racers with it's quarter-mile indoor concrete track that houses 35 European electric karts, allowing as many as 12 drivers to compete side by side. The track boasts four hairpin turns, two straight-aways, and a race against time that's sure to have you on edge.

"We are extremely happy with how our facility has turned out, it's a great place for race enthusiasts to come together to enjoy a thrilling and exhilarating experience," says Neil Tsutsui one of the Partners of Podium Raceway Hawaii. "We are also proud of the fact that our facility has become a cornerstone for the change for better in Kalaeloa/Barbers Point area. Our goal was to create a thriving, safe, healthy, family environment and we've definitely achieved that from the rehabilitation of our building to our use of the most energy efficient lighting and air conditioning, to our all electric karts. We welcome all to come out and to have a great time."

The electric karts are not only emission free and environmentally friendly, but allow guests to race even faster with speeds up to 45 mph on the indoor race track. The concrete track is the optimum medium for racing as it allows the tires to grip the track and prevents sliding.

Though optimum speed and the race against the clock is key in kart racing, the safety of guests and drivers is Podium Raceway Hawaii's number one concern. The PRH race professionals will have complete electronic control to slow down or even stop the karts (individually or all of them) at any time to ensure that all racers remain safe at all times. Passing areas and barrier systems are all provided to ensure a safe racing environment. Helmets and gear are also provided and are required of all drivers. Go karts are available for adults (minimum 55" tall) and juniors ages six and over (minimum 48" tall). Covered shoes are required to operate the karts, no drivers will be allowed to race if wearing slippers, sandals, or high heels. Each Arrive and Drive session lasts for about 10 minutes and may include one to 12 drivers. First time drivers will receive a mandatory briefing session on rules and safety.

One adult race is 14 laps and is $25 for non-members and $20 for members. One junior race is 9 laps and is $20 for non-members and $15 for members. Guests can become Podium Raceway Hawaii Annual Trackpass members for $5.95 and includes use of PRH helmets, head socks, and neck cushions. Membership also includes storage of racing history and online access to your racing scores. You also get the PRH Newsletter with special offers, invites to private events hosted at PRH, access to weekly race specials and receive monthly coupons. Specials discounts are available for Military, Fire, Police and Lifeguards. Identification is required upon race purchase.

Whether you want to race against the clock or race against a friend, the Arrive and Drive allows individuals to come in and shoot for the best lap time against friends, family and other racers. With each race, you'll receive a Race Result Sheet based on the ClubSpeed system that allows you to compare your times and rank against other drivers, and you can even check your results online to see how you fare against the best of the week or month. The scoring system provides valuable data on lap times and overall rank, and is a great tool for individuals who want to track their performance and progress on return visits.

Designed for more than just racing, the space also includes two party rooms, a conference room, and entertaining areas suitable for conferences and other business functions, as well as private events. PRH is now taking reservations for corporate events and holiday parties.
